Long Lasting Food

There are certain ways to treat certain foods so they’ll last longer. And today, we’ll be covering some essential tips that we must know to be a well-informed house owner. In our previous post, we’ve shared something similar:

1. Carrots

Chop off their leaves before storing in the fridge. Keeping the leaves in tact will actually draw moisture out from the carrot at a quicker pace.

2. Bread

Bread is best stored in the paper bag that they come with. They don’t belong in the fridge as it’ll make them go stale faster.

3. Lemons

Lemon will lose their juiciness and harden over time. Store them in a zipper lock and put them into the fridge. The zipper lock will help retain moisture in them.

4. Beets

Store them in plastic bag with holes to allow breathing. Putting them in the vegetable drawer of the fridge is the best. Ideally, cut their leaves off to prevent moisture from being drawn out like the carrot.

5. Peanut Butter

Store your peanut butter upside down. Storing them the usual way isn’t exactly wrong but as time passes, you’ll start to see a layer of oil on top of it. This will make the peanut butter too thick to be spread. Storing them upside down will prevent the oil from separating. Thus, your peanut butter will remain smooth to be spread on your breakfast toast!

6. Soy Sauce

It’s fine for soy sauce to be stored at a steady temperature in the pantry. But, it’ll lose its quality taste over time. Keeping them in the fridge will help to retain its fine taste.

7. Cucumber

Believe it or not, cucumber actually last longer in the pantry compared to the fridge. Putting it at temperature lower than 50°F will actually accelerate its decay.

8. Ginger

Ginger last longer if you store it in spirit. It’ll last for weeks. But, a less expensive option is to put it in a plastic bag and store it in the freezer. That’ll make it last 3 weeks or less.

9. Asparagus

Treat asparagus like what you do with flowers in a vase. Place them upright and in a jar of water. Then, place them in the fridge. You can also cover the top part with a plastic wrap to keep the fridge odor out.

10. Maple Syrup

Maple syrup is around 70% sugar. So, they don’t freeze even if you put them in the freezer. And, that’s a good thing! That means you can store them indefinitely in the freezer forever.
